Abstract

Hafiz’s divan, a literary text has a historical position; actually it is produced by author’s interaction with widespread set of traditions, conversations and social-historical streams in eighth century. The relationship between Hafiz’s divan and social institutions, groups and factors as well as developments and rejections of these groups in production of literary works is a considerable subject that requires comprehensive and autonomous study. Therefore, this study with its descriptive-analytic method as well as using modern historical approach tries to answer these two questions: 1- Which conversations were produced by social groups and institutions of eighth in Hafiz’s poem? 2- Which factors develop or reject these conversations in these texts? The findings show that Hafiz’s divan with its complex network of symbols and positive and negative signs and meanings is a context for rejection of the conversations of official and social institution namely Judges, preachers and Sufis. It is also a context for development of the conversations of Qalandars and Dervishes. Acknowledging the conversational aspects and Social and historical pathology of eighth century such as Hypocrisy, dogmatism, impracticality and irrationality, Hafiz included the concepts such as Free thinking, pragmatism and social tolerance as developmental pattern for Social and historical excellence.
