Abstract
Beliefs have continuously influenced human life and played an undeniable role in the occurrence of events. In this regard, the concepts of omen and auspices have been among the most powerful beliefs throughout history, reflecting human tendencies to predict the future. omen and auspices are among the beliefs that played a significant role in shaping historical events during the Abbasid Caliphate. These beliefs were so impactful on the events of this historical period that without considering them, any understanding of the historical developments of this era would be insufficient and inadequate. This study, using a descriptive-analytical method, raises the fundamental question: What role did omen and auspices play in shaping the historical events of the first and second Abbasid periods? It has been found that omen, by providing a supportive imaginary force, brought peace of mind, alleviated fear and doubt, and thus led to success and achieving the intended goal. On the other hand, auspices, by causing mental turmoil, feelings of weakness and despair, facilitated failure, disruptions in work, delays in affairs, and strengthened fatalism. Politically, both beliefs were exploited to gain legitimacy and convey the impression of possessing divine or spiritual backing.
